Aug 8 (AZINS) Qualcomm is set to finally introduce its next-in-line SoC for wearables. The chipmaker has sent out invites for a September 10 event where it is likely to unveil a new chip which will be a successor to the Qualcomm 2100 SoC that was launched in 2016, Engadget reported. The new chipset is said to be built from scratch for a wearable device and will improve battery life. It is also expected to power even smaller devices.
During the MWC Shanghai 2018, Qualcomm introduced three new mobile platforms, designed to boost the power and efficiency of mid-range and higher-end smartphones.
These platforms - Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and 400 tiers – the Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 mobile platforms - are said to bring higher performance, better battery life, more efficient designs, impressive graphics and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Commercial devices based on Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 are expected to launch in the second half of this year. More than 1,350 commercial devices based on Snapdragon 600-tier mobile platforms and more than 2,300 commercial devices based on Snapdragon 400-tier mobile platforms have been announced by global OEMs. This new generation of platforms brings big improvements to feature-rich platforms.
