Kedarnath in fresh trouble? Shrine town priests demand Sara Ali Khan-Sushant Singh Rajput starrer to be BANNEDAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Nov 4 (AZINS) Looks like Sara Ali Khan's debut film opposite Sushant Singh Rajput - Kedarnath has landed itself in fresh trouble. The teaser of the Abhishek Kapoor directorial was unveiled recently, post which several priests of the shrine town have objected to the release of the film, demanding a ban on it alleging that Kedarnath (the film) propagates 'love jihad'.
A report on the Hindustan Times suggests that the teerth purohits (priests) of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand's Char Dham, have demanded a blanket ban on the film, saying that it hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindus. The chairman of Kedar Sabha (an organisation of priests in the town of Kedarnath), Vinod Shukla was quoted as saying, "We will launch an agitation if the movie is not banned as we have been told that it hurts the Hindu religious sentiments by promoting ‘love jihad’." For those who're uninitiated, the term 'love jihad' refers to the alleged campaigns in which Muslim men feign love to non-Muslim women in order to convert them to Islam.
Shukla further added that the priests had strongly objected to and protested against the film when some of its dance sequences were being shot aroundd the shrine, calling the dance sequances "vulgar". The locals have reportedly already started protesting against the release of the film.
Objections have been raised against the poster of the film as well. In the said poster, Sushant can be seen carrying Sara in a palanquin against the backdrop of thr Kedarnath temple. Some have found the poster to be offensive and factually incorrect since reportedly, no Muslim can ever be seen ferrying pilgrims on the route to the shrine. They found the tagline 'Love is A Pilgrimage' equally offensive.
This isn't the first time that Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Kedarnath has been embroiled into a controversy. Earlier, the film's shoot came to a standstill, over the fallout between it's co-producers. The movie is slated to hit the theatres on December 7.
