'2.0' box office collection: Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer predicted to earn Rs 100 crore on Day 1 itselfNov 29 (AZINS) Said to be the most expensive film in the history of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is a sequel to 2010 blockbuster Ethiran (Robot), which also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Directed by S Shankar, 2.0 also features Adil Hussain, Sudhanshu Pandey and Amy Jackson in pivotal roles.

2.0 has already made a mark with its teasers, posters and promotional videos, that the audience had been waiting eagerly for the release of the film.

In fact, the trailer of the film broke multiple records, garnering 25 million views in less than 24 hours.

While the makers of the film claim that 2.0 is one-of-a-kind experience and with its extravagant VFX, the film is garnering a sizeable amount of attention.

The film is also special as it marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.

With an amazing cast and premium VFX, the film is predicted to break multiple box office records.

Talking about the opening of the film, trade analyst, Girish Johar predicted that 2.0 is going to be the biggest non-holiday release of the year.

"The trailer of 2.0 has increased the expectations of the audience who have been waiting for the film’s release for a very long time. With a fantastic director like Shankar, I don’t think the movie will falter even after the first day. Movie buffs in the South will go berserk as superstar Rajinikanth plays the lead role in the movie,” Johar told indianexpress.com.

“The Hindi version of the film is expected to earn something between Rs 20-25 crore on the day of its release. If we consider all languages (Tamil and Telugu), the Rajinikanth starrer will touch Rs 100 crore (gross) mark on day one," he added.

The analyst also tweeted, "Worldwide screen count for #2point0FromToday is a HUMONGOUS & WHOPPING 10,000 screens plusss for all langs, all formats ...is  UNBELIEVABLE... this is bigger than ANY HOLLYWOOD FILM or ANY FILM released on a single date EVER !!!!"

At Rs 543 crore, 2.0 is touted to be more expensive than several successful Hollywood VFX classics, including Deadpool (2016), X-Men (2000) and Batman (1989).

Earlier, a report by Bollywood Hungama said that the film has already recovered more than half of its production cost even before its release.

It stated that the makers have pre-sold the digital and the satellite rights of all three versions of the film at a whopping amount of Rs. 370 crores.

Being released in 10,000 screens, 2.0 is tagged bigger than any Hollywood film or any film released on a single date ever.

And while taking a step ahead, the Madras High Court has directed 37 internet service providers (ISPs) to block over 12,000 websites that exhibit pirated versions of Tamil films.

Will the film be able to break records at the box office? Only time will tell!
