Nov 7 (AZINS) Making its return to the capital city with its eighth chapter, Maruti Suzuki Arena Delhi Comic Con is the city’s edition of the biggest pop culture extravaganza across the country and the globe. As the city is buzzing with anticipation by assembling their cosplay looks since months, Delhi Comic Con made sure the wait was worthwhile by serving the best of all things pop culture on day 1 of this geeky gala!
The day and the eighth edition of this pop culture fiesta in the capital city began with an exclusive book launch by Abhijeet Kini. Named Rhyme Fighters, this is a series of cartoons, comics and rhymes dedicated to the unsung heroes everyone comes across on the streets and in their homes every day. Abhijeet also debuted his comics Sanskarshala and The Dabbawala. This was followed by an interesting book launch by Blaft Publications titled ‘Killer Echinoderms in Indian History’. The first in a series, these were monographs on Cryptodiversity and Decoherence, concepts that attendees were alien to and thereby, found quite intriguing.
Excitement got fueled to another level with the highly-anticipated special session with Vladimir Furdik, the master of White Walkers and the supreme leader of the ‘Army of the Dead’. While these phrases need no introduction, Game of Thrones (GoT) fanatics were overjoyed. Furdik shared his thrilling previous experiences as a stuntman and his recent role of the Night King.
Seeing all the enthusiastic faces around, Vladimir remarked, “I feel elated being a part of this event where everyone is eagerly warm and nice! I had a wonderful time on my last visit to India and was looking forward to meeting my fans and trying the delicious food again. Needless to say, this beautiful country never disappoints! This has been an amazing day, and I am excited for what the next two days have in store for me.”
'Delhi Comic Con Day 1 Cosplay Contest’ saw hundreds of vibrant cosplayers combat against one another to earn the coveted chance of representing the capital city at the Indian Championship of Cosplay 2019 along with winning a whopping prize amount of Rs 50,000 from the pool.
Maruti Suzuki Arena's Vertical Challenge, a special Spider-Man Zone: Into The Spider-Verse Experience, Marvel Studios' exclusive zone, Mettle Zone celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hot Wheels, ‘House of Amazon’ by Amazon Prime Video Zone, Warner Bros' Aquaman Zone, and Alita: Battle Angel Zone were fan favourites.
Overwhelmed by the enthusiasm displayed by the pop culture fanatics, Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India remarked, “When we started out with Comic-Con, we had honestly not expected it to reach such a remarkable stature in such a short time. And yet, here we are! Delhi is my home, and in these eight years with Comic Con India, it has never made me feel otherwise. I cannot express how great it feels to see such passion among everyone around, and I cannot wait to see how epic the next two days will be!”
This year, the main booth participants at Maruti Suzuki Arena Delhi Comic Con include both globally and nationally renowned publishers and exhibitors such as DC Comics, Crossword Bookstores, Penguin Random House India, Planet Superheroes, Darkhorse Comics, Viz Media, Souled Store and Holy Cow Entertainment, Swatch, among others.
Delhi Comic-Con is taking place on December 7-9 from 11am-8pm at the NSIC Grounds, Okhla.
