ED notice to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for holding Rs 2.6 cr in forexAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Jan 31 (AZINS) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday issued a show cause notice to Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for allegedly bringing in foreign currency over the stipulated limit, thereby violating Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
He has now been asked to reply within 45 days. The ED said the notice has been issued after the probe was recently concluded and he was found to have forex funds to the tune of Rs 2.6 crore. "A Show Cause Notice for an amount of around Rs 2.61 crores have been issued to Rahat Ali Khan and Maroof Ali, both Pakistani nationals for illegal dealings in foreign exchange," the ED said in its statement.
Investigations revealed that Rahat had engaged Chitresh Shrivastava as his global event manager, who collected payments — mostly in cash — on his behalf for shows performed by him in India. This was then illegally converted into US dollars through unauthorised sources.
