Feb 28 (AZINS) Anurag Kashyap, one of the most significant and respected contemporary directors in India, and a self-confessed fan of South Indian cinema, will be watching actor-director Sasikumar's cult classic Subramaniapuram at a special screening. Anurag proved himself as a brilliant actor too with his performance as an antagonist in the Tamil movie Imaikaa Nodigal, which starred Nayanthara, Atharvaa Murali, and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles.
Directed by ’Demonte Colony’ fame Ajay Gnanamuthu, Imaikkaa Nodigal marked the on-screen debut of Anurag Kashyap in the south. Anurag’s last movie Manmarziyaan, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Vicky Kaushal and Tapsee Pannu in lead roles, was critically acclaimed and was a commercial success too.
Anurag Kashyap will be attending a special screening of Sasikumar’s ‘Subramaniapuram’ from which he was inspired to create the two-part masterpiece ‘Gangs of Wasseypur.’ Anurag has told in several interactions in the past about his love for the film.
In fact, he credited the Madurai triumvirate of Bala, Ameer, and Sasikumar in the title credits of Gangs of Wasseypur. Both the parts of GoW emerged as one of the cult classics of Bollywood. The onetime special screening of ‘Subramaniapuram’ will be held in Bandra, Mumbai.
