John Abraham takes a bold stand over Kangana Ranaut's statement, adds he's 'not in the business of trending'Author : AZIndia News Desk
Mar 5 (AZINS) Kangana Ranaut, at the success party of Zee Studios' movie Manikarnika's success, called out Ranbir Kapoor for being politically challenged. This happened after Ranbir Kapoor refused to get indulged in political matters. His reason for doing so was that 'he has sufficient water and electricity in his house to get involved in political issues'. She called the actor an 'irresponsible citizen'.
At the trailer launch of Romeo Akbar Walter aka RAW, John Abraham was asked if he agrees with Kangana on the opinion that actors should take a political stand because they are considered role models. Talking about the same, John backed her and said that actors should definitely talk but only if they are politically aware.
The actor said, "If they're (actors are) politically aware. I think Kangana definitely is. She's got a voice. I think you must take a stand, but only if you are politically aware. You shouldn't be, like I say, 'stupidly talented'. You cannot be an idiot who doesn't know anything about which country lies where. If you don't know what's happening from Bihar to Syria, then you should just shut up and smile and show your mug of work, but don't talk! Unless you're aware about what's happening, then only make a statement. If you're not aware, don't."
Hinting towards being aware about the Pulwama attack and its after effect (including the capture and return of wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman), John added, "I think everybody here who's made this film (Romeo Akbar Walter), on this bench here, everybody in my view, are politically aware. We understand what's happening. Of course, we have even shot the film in Kashmir for a long time. Hence we know what is happening there. We even known the grassroot problems there. We understand what's really happening there."
John further made a very bold statement when he said he's not in the business of trending. The actor concluded by saying, "Hence, when you know a situation, you can make a statement. Again, making a statement at the right time is important. Don't make a statement for effect or to trend. I'm not in the business of trending. I don't want to trend. It's good to show a good film, educate your audience and let's move on with life."
RAW is the story of an Indian spy who is captured in Pakistan right before the Indo-Pakistan war which was held in 1971, right after India and Pakistan were announced as two separate countries. Directed by Robbie Grewal, the movie was initially going to star Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role. Romeo Akbar Walter is produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Dheeraj Wadhwan, Ajay Kapoor, Vanessa Walia, and Gary Grewal and is slated to release on April 5, 2019.
