'The blood you see is my own': Varun Dhawan on how they kept it real on 'Kalank' setAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
April 2 (AZINS) Varun Dawan's rough and tough look as Zafar in Kalank has left an impressive mark on everyone. The handsome hunk reportedly plays the role of a blacksmith in the period drama. VD is paired opposite Alia Bhatt in the film, where she plays the role of Roop. Their sweet and innocent chemistry in Kalank title track made people gush over them. Going by the teaser and several BTS stills, Varun has given his blood and sweat (literally) to get into the skin of the character.
Talking about the same, Varun stated to Mumbai Mirror, "The blood you see is my own because Zafar is the kind of guy who will come out of a crisis with a smirk." He also spoke about his injuries saying, "I moved into a hotel in Goregaon to save time and since I had suffered a knee injury and hamstring tear at the time, I had physios visiting me daily. But I still managed to continue with my twice-a-day training session at the hotel and in the make-shift gym on the set with my trainer Prashant Sawant."
Varun added, "Later, I learnt that he had told Sham Kaushal ji (action director) that he wanted me to do every stunt myself and instructed him to put me through the wringer, banging me against the wall and throwing me off a height."
On the reactions he got for his first look poster, the actor shared, "When the poster came out, Sanjay (Dutt) sir called me up to say that these are the kind of characters I should play. He also said he’s happy to see me all grown up."
Kalank is slated to release on April 17, 2019.
