Anurag Kashyap reveals how 'Gangs of Wasseypur' ruined his life
June 22 (AZINS) Renowned director Anurag Kashyap feels that Gangs of Wasseypur, which released seven years back, ruined his life. The filmmaker got his due with Gangs of Wasseypur - I, which released on June 22, 2012. The movie then successfully had a sequel Gangs of Wasseypur - II with the central character of Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

The reason why Anurag Kashyap feels the movie ruined his life is that as a filmmaker, he has tried to move out of the zone but nobody accepts his films of any other genre. Kashyap, of course was mostly joking since his movies like Ugly, Raman Raghav 2.0, Mukkabaaz and even his most recent release Manmarziyaan was received well by the critics and audiences alike. These movies even went on to do fair to good business at the Box Office. His big-budget film Bombay Velvet, however, turned out to be an epic fail.

The director tweeted, "7 years back is exactly when my life got ruined. Since then all everyone wants me to do is the same thing over and over again. Whereas I have only been unsuccessfully been trying to get away from that expectation. Anyways hope that “????? ????” is over by the end of 2019."

Gangs of Wasseypur went on to do exceptional business in 2012. The movie, which was loved for its rawness, was one of its kind which minted Rs. 10 crore in its opening weekend itself. Gangs of Wasseypur, as the name suggests, was a gang-war drama based in Wasseypur, Jharkhand which starred Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Piyush Mishra and Richa Chadha in pivotal roles. It was made in the budget of Rs. 9.2 crores, which the makers recovered easily.
