July 20 (AZINS) The much-awaited photorealistic computer-animated musical film The Lion King finally hit the screens on July 19, 2019. The film is the remake of Disney's 1994 film of the same name. It has an ensemble set of actors namely Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and James Earl Jones, who have given the voiceovers for the characters. The live-in-action film is helmed by Jon Favreau.
In India, The Lion King opened on a good note and about the same, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#TheLionKing screen count...India: 2140 #English #Hindi #Tamil #Telugu Has started on a good note... Will be the first choice of moviegoers this week... Should collect in double digits on Day 1 [all versions combined]."
Now, the first-day collections are out and as per Box Office India, The Lion King has made about Rs 10.65 crore approx on its opening day. Whereas Taran tweeted the production figures, "#TheLionKing roars... Opens in double digits on Day 1... Trends better than #SpiderManFarFromHome [Day 1: ? 10.05 cr]... Biz will witness an upturn on Day 2 and 3 when kids and families throng cineplexes... Fri ? 11.06 cr. India biz. Gross BOC: ? 13.17 cr. All versions."
As per the trading website, The Lion King has been placed at the sixth position among the top ten opening days in India for Hollywood releases to date. It even beat Spiderman - Far From Home.
