From Priyanka Chopra to Alia Bhatt: Bollywood actresses bring polka dots back in vogue
A bevy of beauties from Bollywood seems to have renewed their love affair with the polka dot. Sonam K Ahuja wore the pattern in a black-and-white midi dress when she returned to Mumbai from London with hubby Anand S Ahuja a couple of days ago. Priyanka Chopra Jonas kept up with the trend in a sheer maxi dress with a matching cape for a dinner outing with Nick Jonas and her pooch Diana in New York. Malaika Arora looked stunning in a turtle-neck mini dress as she made her way out of a salon.

Black-and-white seems to be the most preferred combo for the heroines. While Ananya Panday looked sassy in a body-hugging white number with black dots and a sweetheart neckline at a recent event, Shraddha Kapoor sported a bodycon dress during the promotion of her upcoming film.

Alia Bhatt opted for an olive green outfit as she stepped out for a lunch date with mother Soni Razdan. The Kalank actress completed her look with white sleek sunglasses and a pair of grey heels and minimal make-up. Sanya Malhotra chose a casual look and wore a blue dress as she was papped in the city. Esha Gupta, on the other hand, wore a pretty red-and-white print shirt and black pants.

Rakul Preet Singh’s attire during the promotion of her movie came in two parts – the top half with small black dots and the lower featured big ones.

Explaining why the trend is evergreen among the actresses, stylist Isha Bhansali says, “The polka dot is essentially a symbol of feminism and innocence. Most women have a sense of attachment to it because of that. It’s also a lively and happy pattern, making it a favourite amongst most of the heroines.”

Isha also points out that tiny polka dots flatter just about anyone’s figure no matter what their size and shape. “As much as larger polka dots are great fun prints, smaller ones are preferred because they suit any body type. Big ones look good only on limited types as well as silhouettes. Tinier dots are also more subtle in character. Hence, you’ll find them more on women,” she concludes.
