'Mission Mangal' Box Office report day 9: Akshay Kumar-Vidya Balan's film gets major boost on Janmashtami
Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menon and Sharman Joshi starrer Mission Mangal has been making buzz ever since its release. The movie went on to become Akshay Kumar's highest opening film, and gave him the highest opening weekend.

Within second weekend, the Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menon and Sharman Joshi starrer is all set to dethrone Kesari's lifetime collections. With that, Mission Mangal will become Akshay Kumar's second highest grossing film after 2.0.

The movie earned Rs. 7.83 crore on Friday. Owing to Janmashtami festivities, the movie got a major boost, which will only trend upwards over the weekend. In totaliy, Mission Mangal minted Rs. 135.99 crore by its second Friday and will cross Rs. 150 crore mark by Sunday.

Revealing about the same, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#MissionMangal witnesses growth on [second] Fri... Got a boost due to #Janmashtami festivities... Will hit 150 cr + cross *lifetime biz* of #Kesari *this weekend* [Akshay Kumar’s second highest grossing film]... [Week 2] Fri 7.83 cr. Total: 135.99 cr. India biz."

He also added, "Akshay Kumar’s highest grossing films... 1. #2Point0 [#Hindi] 2. #Kesari 3. #MissionMangal #MissionMangal will stake claim on No 2 position *this weekend*... Will #MissionMangal dethrone #2Point0 [#Hindi] from No 1 spot, only time will tell. India biz."

Mission Mangal, made of budget of Rs. 32 crore, released alongside John Abraham-Mrunal Thakur starrer Batla House. Directed by Jagan Shakti, produced by R. Balki, Mission Mangal is loosely based on the story of scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission, India's first interplanetary expedition. The movie is jointly produced by Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions, Fox Star Studios, Aruna Bhatia, and Anil Naidu.
