After selling off RK Studios, Randhir Kapoor reveals Ganesh Chaturthi no longer Kapoor family traditionAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Ganesh Chaturthi were an important part of the Kapoor family but it looks like the long tradition has eventually come to an end. Randhir Kapoor went on to reveal that with RK Studios being sold off, they have no place to host the celebrations and thus, that marks the end of the tradition.
Raj Kapoor had begun the celebrations as a family tradition. He hosted the festival in RK studios every year, a ritual which was taken forward by his sons Randhir and Rishi Kapoor. This goes on to clear that 2018 Ganeshotsav was the last time we saw the Kapoor sons celebrate the festival of Lord Ganesha together.
Confirming the same, Randhir told Times of India, "That was the last Ganesh Chaturthi celebration for us. RK Studios hi nahi raha... to kahan karenge? Papa (Raj Kapoor) started the tradition 70 years ago with a lot of love for the Trunk God, but now, we don’t have a place where we can hold the celebrations the way we did at RK Studios. We all love Bappa and have immense faith in him, but I guess, we can’t continue with the tradition anymore.”
Established in 1984 in Chembur, RK Studios was an iconic landmark that was part of the Kapoor legacy. Raj Kapoor and Nargis' film Aag was the first movie to be produced under the banner. The studio, which was part of the family, had to be sold off after a massive fire broke out there in 2017.
