'I belong to no religion, I am Indian': Amitabh Bachchan during 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' Gandhi Jayanti special episode
Amitabh Bachchan recently shot for the Gandhi Jayanti's special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. During the episode he went on to say, he does not belong to any religion and believes to be an Indian.

While talking to sociologist Bindeshwar Pathak on sets, Amitabh Bachchan said, “My surname ‘Bachchan’ does not belong to any religion as my father was against it. My surname was Srivastava, but we never believed in it. I feel proud saying is that I’m the first person to hold this family name."

He later went on to share that during Kindergarten admission his last name was changed. "When I was taking admission to Kindergarten, my father was asked my surname and then he decided that my surname would be ‘Bachchan’. When Census employees come to my place, they ask me about my religion and I always answer that I belong to no religion, I’m Indian.”

While talking about some of the other traditions his family followed, Big B revealed they also have a Holi tradition. He said everyone in the family applies colour on the foot of the person who is highly respected and is elderly. “I have no shame in saying that my father respected the people around him. It was our tradition that a person during Holi puts colour on the feet of the eldest and highly respected man. My father Harivansh Rai Bachchan used to put colours on the legs of the person who cleaned toilets before starting his celebration,” he was quoted by Hindustan Times.

The Gandhi Jayanti Kaun Banega Crorepati special episode will air on Wednesday. On Bollywood front, he recently wrapped up the shoot for Gulabo Sitabo with Ayushamann Khurrana and will also be seen in Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra. The film will also star Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Mouni Roy.
