Actor Vijay questioned by I-T officials on sets of 'Master' in tax evasion case
Vijay, one of Tamil cinema's highest-paid actors, today, is being questioned in connection to a tax evasion case. Along with that, the properties of GS Cinemas and film financier Anbu Cheliyan are being raided in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Bigil, a 2019 film starring Vijay was also produced by AGS Cinemas and had reportedly grossed Rs 300 crore worldwide. According to a report in NewsMinute, IT officials reached the Neyveli coal mines when Vijay was shooting for his upcoming film Master with Vijay Sethupathi.

Reports also state that the actor was issued summons over his income following the tremendous success of the sports drama and his questioning is expected to continue on Wednesday evening as he arrives in Chennai. Apart from that, Vijay's house was also searched in September 2015 ahead of his film Puli’s release along with the properties of his co-actors Nayanthara and Samantha were also searched. Vijay had released a statement denying reports of alleged tax evasion at the time.

In another report by NDTV, it was said that BJP Tamil Nadu had opposed the release of his 2017 film Mersal as it featured critical dialogues of the government's implication of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetisation. Vijay had said in a 2016 interview, "The Centre’s move is a good thing. It is courageous, was required and a welcome effort. There is no doubt it will help the country’s economy to grow, however, there could be 20 percent (of the population) who are rich. A small percentage of them may have committed a mistake (black money) but what did the rest do?"
