'Malang', 'Shikara' first day business: Aditya Roy Kapur starrer fares better than Vidhu Vinod Chopra's filmAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
February 7 marked the release of two much-awaited films, the first one being Mohit Suri's Malang starring Disha Patani, Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and the other being Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Shikara starring Sadia and Aadil Khan based on the Exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir.
There were a lot of expectations from Malang and the film collected 6.50 crore net on day one which is a decent collection for the face value of the film, however, the collection of the film is still lower than Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria starrer Marjaawan which had far lower costs than Malang. According to reports in Box Office India, the film should have had a better opening than it did but "the face value of the main lead" came in the way of it.
The challenge that Malang faces now due to its genre, big growth would be a big issue. It is highly unlikely for the film to go up by 40-50% on Saturday but there should be some progress as every film tends to do better on Saturday. The target for the film will be double digits on Sunday which it will have to do if it would prefer to stay in the race at the box office. The reports also suggest that the mass belts could have been better on Friday. Gujarat / Saurashtra and Maharashtra were decent but UP and the Central India markets could have scored better.
On the other hand, Shikara collected 1 crore net on its first day which is not that bad for a film like this which has no face value, it will be interesting to see how the film grows over the weekend and after that.
