'Malang' vs 'Shikara' box office: Disha Patani starrer steady, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film shows 50% growth on day 2Author : AZIndia News Desk
The week before Valentines' Day saw the release of Malang starring Disha Patani, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Kemmu, and Anil Kapoor along with Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Shikara. Malang had collected close to 6 crore net on its first day and the film showed tremendous growth on Saturday as it jumped 30% to take its collection to 8.25-8.50 crore net which took the total collection up to 14.75 crore net.
According to a report in Box Office India, the film showed decent growth for being an action/thriller film, although 50-60% growth would be optimum as the start could have been better.
Reports suggest that the mass markets and single screen collection did not drop which is a plus, however, Malang needs to take a big jump on Sunday and if the results are the same as they were on Saturday, it will have pretty good collections as well as a good weekend trend. The film is performing the best in Nizam/Andhra which has collected over 90 lakhs on day two while CP Berar which is a circuit with a similar ratio is just 60 lakh net. The film will depend on Monday as even a good Sunday does not mean the film will hold well.
Here are the collections of Malang to date.
Friday - 6,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 14,75,00,000 apprx
On the other hand, Shikara based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits showed growth of 50% which is probably not good enough for the film as it had to double up on Saturday collections have a chance of Monday being higher than the Friday number.
Here are the collections of Shikara for the first two days.
Friday - 1,15,00,000
Saturday - 1,70,00,000
TOTAL - 2,85,00,000 apprx
