Income Tax Department issues summons to Tamil actor Vijay, links with financier Anbu Chezhiyan under scrutiny
Days after questioning and raiding properties in connection with the declaration of profits of actor Vijay's last film Bigil which grossed around Rs 300 crore worldwide, the Income Tax Department has now issued summons to the Tamil actor. According to news agency ANI, Vijay has been summoned over charges of tax evasion and his links with financier Anbu Chezhiyan.

ANI tweeted about the same and wrote, "Income Tax Department summons Tamil actor Vijay over charges of tax evasion and his links with financier Anbu Chezhiyan."

For the unversed, on February 6, four major Tamil film industry players namely AGS Group - which includes AGS Cinemas and AGS Entertainment - actor Vijay and film financier Anbu Chezhiyan were under the I-T scanner. A press statement was also issued by the I-T Department saying that all four players were associated with the film Bigil. Reports say that the raids were conducted in over 20 locations related to the AGS Group. In addition to this, the officials withdrew Vijay from the sets of his upcoming film Master in Neyveli and brought him back for questioning regarding his income following the film's success.

Rs 77 crore was seized from the residence of Anbu Chezhiyan, who had financed Bigil and has also funded several Tamil films over the years. Although there was no incriminating evidence against Vijay, it is still unclear why he has been summoned once again. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Master will see Vijay in the role of a college professor and will have a college backdrop for the most part of its story. It’ll be the first time Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi will be seen sharing screen space.
