OMG! Were Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh offered to play Ranbir Kapoor's parents in 'Brahmastra'?
It's a known fact that Brahmastra is set to be a trilogy and the first instalment is set for a release by the end of this year. A couple of months back it was reported that as Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt star as leads in the first instalment, the second part is likely to have Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. However, none of the cast and the makers confirmed the report.

Now as per reports in Pinkvilla, Deepika and Ranveer were indeed offered Brahmastra but for pivotal roles in the first instalment itself. Yes, according to the entertainment portal, the couple was offered to play the role of Ranbir's onscreen parents in the film. Talking about the same, a source told the portal, "Brahmastra is written in a way where many characters who will hardly have a role to essay in the first part, come into play in a major way in the next two parts of the trilogy. Ayan needed two actors from the younger generation - in their mid-30s - to step in to play Ranbir aka Shiva's parents. He had then approached Ranveer and Deepika for the same."

Sounds bizarre? There's a twist to the story! The source went on to say, "Ranbir loses his parents when he's young, so Ranveer and Deepika would have played their actual ages in the film. They have a cameo in Brahmastra Part One, but their backstory comes into light in the second instalment of the mammoth project. It would have been an interesting casting coup but neither Ranveer nor DP have given their nod to the film. The team is now scouting for another A-list actor and actress to step in for the same roles."

Brahmastra is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar. The film also has Amitabh Bachchan in the leading role.
