'We were trying to strip off my firebrand image': Taapsee Pannu on her role in 'Thappad'Author : AZIndia News Desk
Taapsee Pannu is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film, Thappad. In the film, the actor plays the role of a woman, who files a case against her husband after he slaps her at a party. The hard-hitting trailer for the film left an everlasting impact on many and people are eager to watch it on the big screen. Now during an interaction with HT Cafe, Taapsee spoke about how challenging was to play this role.
She stated, "Thappad is one of the most challenging projects of my career because I carry this image of a firebrand actor. People think that isse koi maarega toh yeh ghumaake maaregi. We were trying to strip off that firebrand image to make her resonate with the average Indian woman who still keeps things to herself and does not fight back. To make my audience believe that I can play a character that is submissive and vulnerable, was tough."
Taapsee also shared about how they made sure the movie doesn't have out-and-out domestic violence to the fullest. The talented actor said, "We refrained from making it into a film full of excessive domestic violence because then people might disconnect with it, saying ‘Aisa toh hamare ghar mein nahin hota. Upper middle class, ya educated logo ke ghar mein nahin hota hai’. But the reality is that it happens everywhere. So it was deliberately kept like that."
Thappad is directed by Anubhav Sinha and also stars Pavail Gulati, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Dia Mirza, Ram Kapoor, Kumud Mishra, Manav Kaul in pivotal roles.
