Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan starrer Angrezi Medium released on Friday but registered a dull start mainly because of the coronavirus outbreak. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film made Rs 4.03 crores on its opening day.

Taran tweeted about the first-day collection and wrote, "#AngreziMedium Fri ? 4.03 cr. #India biz.Note: Biz has been severely affected due to closure of cinema halls in several states. #CoronaVirus #COVID19."

Reports state that the film has been hit by the closure of cinema halls in important centres like Delhi NCR. Angrezi Medium got leaked online on the day of its release which also affected its earnings. According to a report in India Today, the film was reportedly available to watch in the highest qualities on a torrent website and a streaming website. 

Angrezi Medium sees Irrfan play a single father, hailing from the middle-class small-town background, who will go to any extent to fulfill the dreams of his daughter, played by Radhika Madan. It also stars Kareena Kapoor, Deepak Dobriyal, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Tripathi in important roles.

Angrezi Medium received mixed reviews by critics. Writing about it, the DNA review said, "It's a delight to watch Irrfan doing what he knows the best that is, to perform effortlessly. His straight face humour and command over the screen made me realise how much I missed seeing him on the big screen. To match up with him, we have Deepak, who is fun and entertaining to the fullest. However, that's all we could see in several instances."
