People have become accustomed to the 'Dark Mode' in their phones, be it Android or iOS. This feature was welcomed and loved by all. In the latest development, Google Maps has now received the dark more for Android users across the globe. The feature was earlier limited to only iOS models.
"What do we want? Dark theme! Where do we want it? Google Maps!," Google wrote in a tweet via its Android handle.
Google has been working on the dark mode for Google Maps since September last year but the global rollout for Android users has begun only now.
The night mode in mobile phones and applications was a much-needed feature as it is meant to provide "a much-needed break for your eyes." Not only that, but the dark mode will also help to conserve your phone's battery life.
In the Dark mode for Google Maps, the map background is featured in a super-dark shade of grey while the street names are displayed in a lighter shade of grey, making it easier for the user to spot important landmarks and roads.
To access the Dark Mode feature on your phone, users need to download the latest version of Android OS, that is, version 10.61.2,
How to activate Dark Mode on Google Maps on Android phones
Step 1- On the Google Maps app, click on your profile icon in the top right corner.
Step 2- From the list of options, select 'Theme Settings'
Step 3- Click on 'Always in Dark Theme' mode.
If you wish to switch back to the original white mode, you can follow the above steps but instead of selecting the 'Always in Dark Theme' option, click on the 'Always in Light Theme' option.
