Game of the WEEK:
Taverners Warming up before the game.
Game 30: TAV Vs WildCats @ Washington (E): This game has to be the best game of the weekend, because it witnessed a cool and calm approach of making a come back from almost having-lost-the-game position. Taverners batting first scored a modest 126/9 thanks largely to the opening batsman Venkatraman Radhakrishnan (25 off 15 balls) and the lower order batsmen Rohit Sardesai (14), Srikanth Ponnapalli (25) and Karthik Rajagopalan (20). Wildcats started off really well and it was turning out to be a one sided game when they were cursing at 76/2 with run a ball required at one stage, but Taverners bounce back sharply as they kept their cool and finally won the game by 4 runs. Prasanna Upadhayay (35) and Guru Bavrisetty (23) batted beautifully for Wildcats as Karthik Rajagopalan (2/23) stared for Taverners with the ball.
Batsmen of the Week:
- Rod Gohil (Arizona Cricket Club): His blasting 72 off 58 balls against the Metro Champs made sure that ACC remains in hunt for a quarterfinal birth in the tournament. His innings included 8 boundaries and 4 sixes and ensured ACC a win by a big margin of 103 runs.
Bowlers of the Week: 2 of the best bowlers this week feature from Valley Eagles. They bowled with a lot of fire and induced a sudden collapse in the Metro Suns, the Red-2 group topper so far.
- Anji P (Valley Eagles): 2-0-4-4 probably remains the best bowling performance of this tournament so far as he induced a collapse in the Metro Suns team.
- Ravi Chavli (Valley Eagle): He partnered beautifully with Anji P and his spell of 2.2-0-6-4 was equally responsible for a sudden collapse in Metro Suns.
- Karthik Rajagopalan (TAVs): When it mattered most, TAVs showed the mettle and Karthik with his 2/23 rose to the occasion as TAVs sneaked a win by 4 runs over wildcats.
Trivia:
- Out of the 8 games played this week, 4 were won batting first and 4 were won chasing the target.
- So far in the AZTwenty20, a total of 7845 runs have been scored for the loss of 506 wickets at an average run rate of 6.34 runs per over.
Points Table: Intraedge Kings lead the overall points table so far based on a superior net run rate of 5.19 while Metro Stars, Cavaliers and Taverners follow. After this, the table has become very competitive with as many as 7 teams notching up 4 points equally. This weeks game would possibly clear up the things in the lower half of the table even though the net run rate might turn out to be a last minute hero once the second round of the games are over.
