Wall Street Journal set to release first news app
New York, June 11 (AZINS) The Wall Street Journal is gearing up to release its first digest-style news app, a media report said.

The app is named "What's News" after the signature news column that has been featured on the journal's front page and would be a paid one, Digitaltrends.com reported.

All of the content in the What's News app will be produced by a team of journalists and will provide important daily news stories.

The app can be described as "a scan of the day's most important news stories broken down for readers on the go".

The Wall Street Journal's move to create its own mobile application comes soon after The New York Times revamped its own mobile app, NYT Now, which is free for now.

The Wall Street Journal will have plenty of competition from Apple's News app, NYT Now and Yahoo's News Digest.

The WSJ app offers instant access to breaking news, market information and expert commentary from around the world.

The company claims to have more than two million paying customers, of which 700,000 are digital-only subscribers. What's News will be a key component of the journal's digital strategy.

The app is likely to enter beta testing in July, before rolling out on Apple's iOS operating system.
