Online support brings 'world’s ugliest woman' to big screenAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Los Angeles, Sep 27 (AZINS) Lizzie Velasquez came under the spotlight at the age 17 when a YouTube video labelled her the “world’s ugliest woman". The story of Velasquez, who has since become an accomplished author, motivational speaker and anti-bullying activist, can now be seen on the big screen.
The 26-year-old, who was diagnosed with a rare syndrome that prevents her from gaining weight, has shown her journey in the documentary "A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story".
Velasquez told variety.com that she had been approached with numerous movie and reality television offers over the years, but agreed to collaborate with first-time filmmaker Sara Hirsh Bordo and her Women Rising production banner.
The documentary was ultimately given a PG-13 rating. Nevertheless, Bordo said that it was important to show the crude language and tragic stories that motivated the Safe Schools Improvement Act, which Velasquez lobbies for in the film.
“A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story” hit the screens on Friday.
