Nov 5(AZINS) Tamannaah's 'transparent dress' row: 4 other actresses whose outfits sparked protestsBaahubali actress Tamannaah recently ruffled a few feathers with her dress. Her Gauri and Nainika designer outfit has been termed the ‘transparent dress’ and people on social media are looking at it as a wardrobe malfunction rather than as designer wear.
Some other actresses before her have been caught in controversies over their edgy clothes. The south film industry and the audience prefer to see their heroines dressed conservatively off screen and on screen. In fact, actresses’ outfits have even been the topic of discussion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in 2008!
Shriya Saran
Shriya Saran has a great figure which means she can wear anything. And she did just that at the Silver Jubilee or 175th day celebration of her hit film Sivaji with Superstar Rajinikanth. Shriya decided to wear a strappy short dress to the event where then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was the chief guest. The revealing dress didn’t go down well with some of those who attended the event. The political outfit – Hindu Makkal Katchi – filed a complaint against the actress for her revealing outfit.
Mallika Sherawat
This actress has done a few Tamil films but it was during the audio launch of Dasavatharam that her outfit caused an issue. The actress wore a short black dress that had a transparent back and midriff in the front. The Hindu Makkal Katchi once again took offence and filed a complaint against her.
Sameera Reddy
This actress before settling down, had a lot of hits down South. However, one thing that Sameera Reddy was criticised for was an outfit she wore to an event in Mumbai. The actress wore a Falguni and Shane Peacock dress which was transparent in parts in the front. And some people down south didn’t approve. Sameera was reportedly asked about it and she supposedly said that she knows what outfit to wear to what event and that this outfit wasn’t vulgar.
Namitha
This actress was attacked for her revealing outfits on several occasions. In 2008, PMK Chief T Velmurugan took to the Tamil Nadu Assembly floor to talk about how Kollywood actresses dressed in public. He attacked Tamil TV channels that aired programmes with actresses in revealing clothes referring to Namitha and her appearance on a popular Tamil dance show. The then Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasamy had stated that there was no law that can enforce what actresses wore but they could be advised to appropriately dressed for the occasion.
