18-year-old wins $250,000 using popcorn and spaceships: Breakthrough PrizeNov 11(AZINS) 18-year-old Ryan Chester a North Royalton High School senior won a $250,000 scholarship for himself, a $100,000 new science lab for his school and $50,000 for North Royalton science teacher Richard Nestoff from the Breakthrough Junior Challenge.

Breakthrough Prize was founded by Google's Sergey Brin and Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge was a competition for students aged 13-18 to submit videos that explain science, physics and math concepts.

About 2,000 teenagers from 86 countries submitted videos.

Chester's video demonstrated Einstein's theory of relativity using popcorn and spaceships.

Chester spent two weeks researching the subject, and four days producing his video.

It has also been featured in science movies and television programs so frequently that Chester said he has accepted the theory without fully understanding the truth behind it and inspired him to explore the special theory of relativity even further.

Chester said he’s not sure where he’ll study next fall, he said the scholarship will take a few pressure off paying for school.
