A Google engineer is warning users not to buy OnePlus' USB Type-C cableMumbai, Nov 17(AZINS) Guys like Benson Leung are part of what make the metaphorical tech world go round. A Google Chromebook engineer by day, he's embarked on a campaign to test every USB Type-C cable he can find on Amazon, and leave brutally honest reviews. So far, it's mostly been cables backed by non-existent brands, but that took a turn yesterday. Leung is now saying that the Type-C cable being shipped with the OnePlus' flagship smartphone could damage your devices.

In a Google Plus post, Leung says users should not buy the OnePlus USB Type-C to Type-A or Type-C to microUSB cable. His Amazon review for the product states, "Using this charging cable....will attempt to draw 3A of current over the cable, potentially damaging the USB hub or charger on the A side, which is not guaranteed to be rated at 3A." He adds that, while the cabe is safe for the OnePlus 2 itself, since it doesn't support fast charging, having the cable around might lead you to accidentally using it with another device, which could be catastrophic. He reports that the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Chromebook Pixel are especially at risk with OnePlus' cable, and you could risk damaging the charger, hub, or USB port on your PC.

Basically, don't use the cable for any device that supports fast charging, but preferably find another alternative.
