The next Google Glass might be missing the "Glass" partMumbai, Nov 18(AZINS) When Google was officially announced, it's an understatement to say the device bombed. tech enthusiasts everywhere, while they probably liked the idea behind the hardware, just couldn't come to grips with having to wear half a pair of glasses on their head all the time. And though the less than welcome reception has put Google Glass in almost stagnant development for the past few years, it's reportedly making a comeback. Just without the "Glass " part of the equation.

According to The Information, the successor to Google Glass will still be a wearable, but it may not have a screen. Code named Project Aura, the development process is being headed by Nest co-founder Tony Fadell. He's worked on head-mounted displays in the past with Apple, which explains his current role with Google. And while there are reportedly three versions of the new device in development, that may later be scaled down to just two; one for enterprises, with a display, and the other without, probably a more everyday-oriented device, which will rely on audio feedback.

Everything else about Project Aura is still under wraps; the only things we can know for sure is that Google is likely going to be paying extra attention to how the device looks this time around, and that the company is stillaiming for a 2016 release date. While that will place the device release around the time we get our hands on a consumer version of Microsoft's HoloLens, we're not sure they'll really be competing in quite the same category. Of course, you'll have more details when we do.
