Siri's voiced-activated support announced for 5 million Ford carsAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Mumbai, Dec 7(AZINS) Ford has announced that it will offer support for Apple's Siri Eyes-free feature for about 5 million of their cars. Siri can be activated in a Ford car with the help of a hardware button which is usually located on its steering wheel to issue commands.
These commands include everything that you will probably want to do with your iPhone without having to touch it. Sending text messages, making phone calls, getting directions, playing music, setting reminders and checking the weather are some of the commands that can be used.
Although it is useful and less distracting than the traditional way of operating you iPhone, it is not as advanced as Apples's CarPlay.
Apple's CarPlay has been accessible to some drivers for a while now. Owners of cars manufactured form 2011 onwards equipped with MyFord Touch (also known as SYNC in some regions) will be able to download the update form the Ford's website. However, even though Siri Eyes-free is useful, Apple's CarPlay is far more advanced.
Apple has listed Ford as one of their partners in this new initiative, but as pointed out, the latest heard on a CarPlay-equiped Ford vehicle was that it would be arriving relatively soon. In the meantime, Ford users will always have Eyes-Free.
