Facebook Messenger now uses facial recognition softwareMumbai, Dec 18(AZINS) Facebook's new feature called Photo Magic uses facial recognition software to make it easier to share photos with friends right after you take them. When Photo Magic is enabled Facebook Messenger will nudge you to share Photos when it detects a new picture.

The Photo Magic feature will use the same facial recognition technology used in photo tag suggestions and the standalone Moments app. If you want to opt out of the new feature, you can disable it from settings.

If you don’t opt for Photo Magic you won’t get suggestions for photos that you take, although you will appear in the suggestion for your friends if you have Tags suggestions enabled.

The facial recognition software will be deployed in the Facebook messenger application to make it convenient to share photos with family and friends. This feature scans every photo in your camera roll and then notifies you if it recognises any of your Facebook friends. it will also give you the option to send the photo to all your friends that it recognises.

It was first introduced in Australia back in November with huge success. About 9.5 billion pictures have already been sent using the Facebook Messenger app in Australia alone.

Along with Photo Magic, Facebook Messenger will also give you the option to change the background colour of your chat box with different friends and it will give you the option to switch the formal name of your Facebook friends to a nickname.

This feature is coming out just in time for the holidays as it is reported to be rolling out worldwide (with the exception of Canada and the European Union) on Thursday for iOS and Android users.
