Google's Project Loon could give everyone InternetAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Mumbai, Dec 21(AZINS) According to Google about two-thirds of the world’s population does not yet have Internet access. In the wake of this, Google had a revolutionary plan to give everyone the opportunity to use the Internet. All you need is a smartphone.
Project Loon is a research and development project being developed by Google with the objective of providing Internet access to rural and remote areas. Project Loon is a network of balloons travelling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and bring people back online after disasters.
As explained by Google Project Loon balloons float in the stratosphere, twice as high as airplanes and weather. There are many layers of wind in the stratosphere and each layer of wind varies in direction and speed. The Project Loon balloons move into a layer of wind that is blowing in the direction that they need to go. The Project Loon balloons can then be arranged to form one giant network.
The project has got approval from the government to run a pilot as reported by the Economic Times
Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had expressed concerns about the Project Loon Balloons interfering with the existing telecom spectrum. The minister said this at a Rajha Sabha meeting while he was answering a question, he mentioned that the proposed frequency on which Project Loon will operate on, may interfere will the telecom spectrum.
