Microsoft creating its own SIM card for cross-carrier cellular data accessAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Mumbai, Jan 8(AZINS) With the proliferation of Windows 10 devices--especially those with built-in cellular capabilities--Microsoft appears to be keen to make cellular data access easier. This was evidenced when they recently published a Cellular Data app to the Windows Store that promises to deliver ‘a reliable, convenient way to stay connected everywhere you go, even when WiFi isn’t available.’
The app mentions it will enable connecting a Windows 10 device to a multitude of cellular operators (none specifically mentioned,) using just a Microsoft account--no need to sign up for multiple mobile plans. It purportedly lets a user buy and use cellular data whenever required. The plans will eventually be listed on the Windows Store in all places where cellular coverage is available. Interestingly, the app description makes specific mention of necessarily requiring a ‘Microsoft SIM’.
Details of this Microsoft SIM are not available, but it will in all likelihood be similar to Apple’s own Apple SIM, which offers similar functionality. While the Microsoft version mentions only US availability currently, the Apple offering also includes international cellular data roaming.
