LeEco arrives in India, unveils premium 6.33-inch Le Max with floating glass designNew Delhi, Jan 21(AZINS) All the pre-launch buzz and rumours were almost bang on. Chinese major lectronics brand LeEco (known as LeTV until recently) made its India debut today with two ambitious smartphones and, not surprisingly, ‘disruption’ was a word that we heard at the launch. While the Le Max hogged the limelight at the event, it’s LeEco’s ecosystem that the company was keen to showcase.

We had a quick brush with the Le Max and were quite impressed with the form factor. It is huge, almost ridiculously huge, with a 6.33-inch screen that suggests phablets are here to stay, pushing smartphones into tablet territory. But despite this king-size screen, the device scores an impressive 80.3 percent screen to body ratio. It makes this phone somewhat easier to grip despite its large footprint. Equally impressive is its insanely narrow bezel – with a 0.8mm bezel border, almost invisible, that complements the floating glass design. We dig the unibody, aluminium build too.

The 2K, display is sharp and vibrant, packing an impressive 464 pixels per inch (PPI). The 21MP camera is positioned as one of the selling points of the device. The shooter is replete with a Sony IMX 230 sensor backed by a 6MP lens and Optical Image stabilisation. We were impressed with our brief, initial impressions of the shooter. The device’s 4MP selfie cam comes with a 81-degree wide-angle lens. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM, that teams up nicely with the fluid user interface. Other highlights of the Le Max include a responsive fingerprint sensor, dual 4G SIM support, and a Type-C USB port, as well as a 3400mAh battery that promises 3.5 hours of talk time with a 5-minute charging cycle.

The device comes with 64GB of onboard memory and a price tag of Rs 32,999, that will need some hard selling for a brand that is still not a household name in India. There’s also a premium version – the Le Max Sapphire, with a premium build and 128GB storage, priced at a stiff and almost overly ambitious Rs 69,999.

The other LeEco device that was unveiled today – the Le 1S can truly claim to be ‘disruptive’. It's feature packed for a device with an aggressive Rs 10,999 price tag. The 1S has a 5.5-inch full HD display (1920x1080), is powered by a 2.2GHz Helio X10T processor with 3GB of RAM, and features a 13MP camera and a fingerprint sensor in a metal unibody.

LeEco also unveiled its ambitious blueprint to be more than just a smartphone or TV company. It aims to bring four key elements – platform, content, application and device in a unique strategy that aims to break new ground in the entire content consumption scheme of things. We dig the company’s vision to build a user-driven interface, in partnership with actual users. LeEco claims that 600 new features and 28,000 improvements were made possible by user feedback. Some of the key elements in the brand’s eUI include intelligent functionality, where the UI learns from your usage patterns and adapts. LeEco also announced a partnership with Eros. The devices will be bundled with a year’s access to Eros’ library of Indian movie and TV content.
