Mumbai, Jan 21(AZINS) Samsung India has just launched its Virtual Reality headset in India; the Gear VR, will be available across all Samsung retail channels for Rs 8,200, as well as online on Flipkart starting Thursday.
The Gear VR, powered by Facebook's Oculus, is a virtually reality headset that uses the display of a Samsung smartphone to offer an immersive, 360-degree interactive experience. The company has stated the device works seamlessly with Galaxy smartphones, including their top end Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+.
The Gear VR is small enough to make it moderately portable, measuring in at 7.9 x 4.5 x 3.6 inches and weighing around 320g without an equipped smartphone. It has a 5.7-inch Quad HD ?(2560×1440) Super AMOLED display with a 96-degree field of view and 20ms latency. There's also the standard accelerometer, gyrometer, geomagnetic, and proximity sensors. Thankfully, the device also comes equipped with a focal adjustment scroll wheel, a back button, and a touchpad/controller on the right hand side.
The device is charged via micro-USB and comes shipped with a 16GB microSD card, preloaded with 360-degree videos and 3D movie trailers. No word yet on when the Gear VR-specific Rink controllers, debuted at CES 2016, might follow.
