Would you dare to try out the latest trend for glow in the dark hair?Jan 22(AZINS) We may only be a few weeks into 2016, but the latest wacky hair trend is already upon us, as beauty fans embrace 'glow in the dark' tresses.

The eye-catching look has been taking over Instagram, with advocates showing off their luminous locks in loose waves, braids and buns using the hashtag #glowinthedarkhair. The look involves using multicolored dyes such as the long-standing US brand Manic Panic products to create a pattern of neons that glow under UV light. The most striking results are achieved when several colours are used and then weaved together in a braid or an updo.

According to Cosmopolitan, Manic Panic has seen a surge in sales of late due to the wacky trend. Its semi-permanent vegan "High Voltage Classic Cream Formula" dyes ($13.99) come in over 40 different electrifying hues and last four to six weeks on average once applied.

If you decide to glow over to the dark side then Manic Panic founders Tish and Snooky suggest rubbing petroleum jelly around your hairline, ears and neck before using the dye, to avoid any stains. They also advise combing the colour through wet hair and working it in well with the hands for an even result. The dye takes at least 30 minutes to take hold, but can be left on for hours at a time without harming the hair. Rinsing with cold water will help the color set better.

Glow in the dark hair proves that the trend for multicoloured tresses, which took off in 2015, is still on point for the New Year. The last 12 months saw the emergence of the celebrity-led ‘Rainbow hair' look, and ‘Brony hair', inspired by the 1980s TV franchise "My Little Pony." A sweeter take on the aesthetic came in the fall, when ‘Macaron hair', a combination of patisserie-like pastel hues weaved together for a fairytale effect, went viral on Instagram.
