Airlift v/s Kya Kool Hai Hum 3: Who won the opening day box office battle?Author : AZIndia News Desk
Jan 23(AZINS) After the staggering Dilwale v/s Bajirao Mastani clash, January 2016 will see two of the biggest clashes, back to back. This week, it was Akshay Kumar-Nimrat Kaur starrer patriotic thriller Airlift going head to head with Tusshar Kapoor-Aftab Shivdasani starrer Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 at the box office.
While one is a well conceptualised plot based at the backdrop of the biggest human evacuation- the most heroic act by the nation, the other is a mindless mad-cap comic caper that teases the funny bone and is replete with sexual innuendos. The audiences for both the films are meant to be different. But when both clashed, here's what happened. Who recorded a better opening day at the box office? Here's the lowdown.
Airlift:
Akshay Kumar's Airlift has hit the bull's eye. While his previous film based on a similar theme in the same genre had opened to a decent Rs 9 crore (approx), Airlift has surpassed that by miles. It was needed that the film takes a great opening and now with Rs 12.35 crore in its kitty on day one, it has taken a strong lead over KKHH 3. Also, reviews range from decent to impressive so an exceptional word of mouth has ensued which will ensure that the film does wonders at the box office in the long run. It's expected to grow even further on Saturday and Sunday and an opening weekend total around the Rs 38-40 crore mark can be expected.
Kya Kool Hai Hum 3:
Despite a clash with a film that stars a superstar, KKHH 3 has definitely managed to open well. In fact, it has opened much better than most other Bollywood films last year. The film recorded a day one collection of Rs 8.15 crore which is quite decent, given the strong competition and its content. Although reviews haven't been on the positive side for this adult comedy, the team never made the film for the critics. With a large audience for films of this genre, KKHH 3 will also be growing over the weekend but the acid test will be on Monday and it needs to be seen how much the film drops in the weekdays to gauge its lifetime run.
