Is Google’s parent company building a new city from scratch?Author : AZIndia News Desk
Mumbai, Apr 6(AZINS) A jaw-dropping rumour has surfaced around Alphabet--Google’s parent company--plans to build an entire city from scratch. The city is reported, going to be spurred by Sidewalk Labs, another arm of Alphabet.
“Thinking about a city from the Internet up is really compelling,” said Dan Doctoroff, CEO of Sidewalk Labs, At a summit in New York City held by website, The Information.
'We hope that Sidewalk will play a major role in developing technology products, platforms and advanced infrastructure that can be implemented at scale in cities around the world.' He added
Sidewalk Labs’ current works on projects that center around seemingly mundane although realistic projects like developing better and free Wi-Fi, improving public transportation and traffic, and general improvement of urban cities through technology.
The company seems to be bolstering up their workforce. The tech firm had reportedly been consulting and possibly hiring experts to explore the idea of a tech utopia built from the ground-up.
With no surprise, the head-turning statement made by Doctoroff did not go unnoticed but when asked about his new city, he was mostly evasive although he did say building a city like that “would be a great idea” adding “I can’t tell you anything.”
Alphabet CEO, Larry Page also spoke about creating a place for new Google products, free from the watchful eye of the government.
So the idea isn't too far-fetched, with Alphabet’s backing, Sidewalk Labs will have an endless supply of funding to finish an endeavour like this. So only one question remains, Will they?
