Facebook gave a 10-year-old boy $10,000 for exposing a glitch on InstagramAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Mumbai, May 4(AZINS) Earlier this year, FaceBook Inc paid a 10-year-old boy from Helsinki $10,000 for spotting a blemish in security on Facebook-owned photo-sharing Instagram. The boy -- whose name is Juni -- found a bug which let him delete any comment on Instagram with a simple hack that altered the social media sharing app.
"I would have been able to eliminate anyone, even Justin Bieber," The boy-genius told Finnish publication Iltalehti.
According to VentureBeat.com, the Finnish boy discovered the security flaw on his own.
He explained his discovery to Facebook via an email and confirmed the legitimacy of his claim to the company by deleting a comment on a test account set up by the company.
“It would be my dream job. Security is very important,” said Jani, an aspiring security researcher.
He reported used the reward money to buy a new bike, football gear, and computers for his two brothers.
Since launching its bug bounty programme in 2011, Facebook has spent $4.3 million in rewards to more than 800 security researchers for over 2,400 submissions.
