BitTorrent debuts TV streaming app BitTorrent LiveAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
May 18(AZINS) Peer-to-peer file-sharing platform BitTorrent is moving into live streaming TV with Mac and Apple TV app BitTorrent Live.
Thirteen existing channels are available for free at launch, with plans to introduce "subscription based, ad supported and Pay Per View premium tiers" in future, VP of Communications and Brand, Christian Averill, wrote on the BitTorrent blog. The initial offering includes coverage of music (Clubbing TV, NUsicTV), sports (FAST&FUN, Fightbox, One World Sports, Pursuit), tech (TWiT), film (Filmbox Arthouse), and news and politics (Newsmax, OANN, OpenNews TV).
BitTorrent VP of Media Erik Schwartz told the Daily Dot that their tech made for "much lower latency than traditional livestreaming platforms" -- a boon for those watching live events, particularly in sports. Meanwhile, the app is expected to launch this week on both Apple TV and Mac OS, according to Variety.
Apple was previously discovered to be using BitTorrent technology for undisclosed purposes in March, TorrentFreak had reported; BitTorrent had experimented with live New Hampshire Primary election coverage via Android, iOS and tvOS app OTT News the month before.
