May 19(AZINS) At CBS Upfronts, the network unveiled a teaser and a new poster for the upcoming revival of the TV series Star Trek.
Bryan Fuller of Pushing Daisies and Hannibal will be revamping the show with Alex Kurtzman. Nicholas Meyer who directed The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country has been roped in as a writer and consulting producer.
Rod, son of the creator of this amazing universe, Gene Roddenberry, will be producing the show. The series is expected to premiere in January 2017. The first episode will air exclusively on CBS network and rest of the series will be available on CBS All Access. Subsequently, it will be made available on other platforms worldwide, reports ScreenRant.
Shooting for the series shall begin this fall in Toronto, Canada. Other details about the project are still under wraps.
Rumours suggest that the new series will not be in the same timeline as the rebooted movie franchise. Meanwhile, the movie franchise is all set to release the third movie in the series Star Trek Beyond on July 22.
Here is the synopsis of the revived show -
"The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilisations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966."
The teaser reminds us of the end credits of the second movie in the rebooted franchise, Star Trek Into Darkness. Zooming past the void, in a hurry to reach the new globe, new star.
It promises new crew, new villains, new heroes, new worlds. What more a Trekkie could wish for?
