Indians are trying to get Android N named after a Kerala sweet dishAuthor : AZIndia News Desk
Mumbai, May 21(AZINS) When Google announced it’s latest Android OS at I/O 2016, they said that, as usual, they were having some trouble coming up with a dessert-themed name for it. So, the company asked the public for suggestions to name Android N.
As such it appears we’re looking at a major push from Indian users to get the OS named after a local dessert. Bangalore-based app developer and Android user Arun Kumar is trying to motivate Indians to suggest Android Neyyappam as the name for Google’s newest smartphone OS. There’s an entire website dedicated to the petition, as well a Twitter handle making the call to action. And it looks like a lot of people are about to get on board. The Kerala Tourism Board has also gotten in on the action, asking people to support Android Neyyappam as the new name.
Google has launched a microsite to accept suggestions for the new OS name, the only limitations being that the name has to be of a dessert or candy, and that it start with the letter N, as follows the tradition with every Android OS like KitKat, Lollipop and then Marshmallow.
But whether or not you’re looking to support #AndroidNeyyappam, remember that window closes at 12:29pm June 9. And, of course, Google reserves the right to pick the final name, so there’s no guarantee that even major support for one name will have it win. But hey, putting in a suggestion is worth a shot.
