Debbie Reynolds dead, industry mourns 'Hollywood royalty'Los Angeles, Dec 29 (AZINS) Veteran screen icon Debbie Reynolds, who rose to stardom with "Singin' in the Rain", died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, just a day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away. Hollywood celebrities have mourned the passing away of one of the last of its "royalty".

According to Debbie's son Todd, she died of a stroke, tmz.com reported.

Debbie became a rising star after featuring as Helen Kane in 1950's "Three Little Words" and was feted with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2015.

She also played iconic roles in "Tammy and the Bachelor" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown", for which she even earned an Oscar nomination.

Some of the popular faces of Hollywood paid tribute to her on social media.

Popular TV show host Ellen DeGeneres posted: "I can't imagine what Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds' family are going through this week. I send all of my love."

Carrie was Debbie's daughter with Eddie Fisher, whom she divorced in 1959 after his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie married two more times in 1960 and 1984.

The mother-daughter were very close. Their relationship was the focus of Carrie's semi-autobiographical book "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted for the big screen, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine.

Debbie is survived by her son Todd, who told tmz.com: "She's with Carrie."

Actor Josh Gad said: "Thoughts and prayers with Debbie Reynolds and the entire family right now. Devastatingly sad. There are no words left. RIP."

Actor-filmmaker William Shatner said: "Debbie Reynolds was one of the last of Hollywood Royalty. It breaks my heart that she is gone. I'd hoped that my grieving was done for 2016."

Calling 2016 a "cruel year", actor Mark Hamill commented: "How shocked we were to learn that Debbie Reynolds passed away just a day after her daughter Carrie."

Albert Brooks, who played one of Debbie's onscreen children in "Mother", tweeted: "Reynolds, a legend and my movie mom. I can't believe this happened one day after Carrie."

Even Debra Messing, who played Debbie's daughter in the same film, said: "So heartsick. Debbie went to be with Carrie. It's such a devastating 1,2 punch. She was my 'mom' for years and I loved her dearly. A legend."

Actor Grant Gustin said: "Debbie Reynolds helped light my passion for performing 'Singin in The Rain'. She will always be an icon. Rest with Carrie, Debbie."

Young singer-actress Miley Cyrus said the news made her "wanna hug my mama and never let go", while "Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana said: "As a mother, my heart goes out to Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher.

Actress Constance Zimmer put forward a pertinent thought: "The most incredible love is when one can't live without the other."
